The plan for Kovid vaccination of children in the country is almost ready. A list of those comorbidities is being prepared, the children suffering from which will get the vaccine first. According to a member of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI), ZyCoV-D and Covaxin are set to be launched simultaneously. Both these vaccines will be launched for children aged 2 to 17 years as soon as the list of diseases is prepared. According to a source, guidelines related to the vaccination of co-morbid children will be issued soon.

What are the vaccines for children?
In August, Zydus Cadila’s vaccine ZyCoV-D was approved for emergency use on children aged 12 to 17 years. The vaccine cannot be included in the COVID vaccination program without the approval of DCGI.

When will the children’s vaccine be launched?
No date has been given yet. The sub-committee of NTAGI has held several meetings with paediatricians. Once the list of co-morbidities is prepared, the vaccine launch date will also be finalized. It is expected that after Diwali there will be clarity on the vaccine launch. At present, the officials are busy preparing the guidelines.
