Kolkata: West Bengal And Assam The two states will go to the polls on Saturday for the first phase. Strict security has been put in place for the polls, which will be held for a total of 77 seats. Considering both the states, a total of more than 1.54 crore voters will exercise their right on Saturday.
West Bengal will go to the polls in the first phase for 30 Assembly seats. Many of these places are in the former Naxal-affected Jangmahal region. Therefore, strict security arrangements have been made in this area. Voting in this area will be the focus of many parties as well as the Election Commission. The BJP is expected to have good success in this area. The BJP had won the local body elections in the region in 2019.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) has deployed a large number of 684 companies of security forces in the area. It will be responsible for the security of a total of 10,288 polling stations. Apart from this, police personnel of the state have also been appointed at important places.
The rules of the corona will be obeyed
In the first phase, elections will be held in 9 important constituencies of Purulia, 4 in Bankuda, 4 in Zadgram, 6 in West Medinipur and seven other important constituencies. This area is considered to be the stronghold of BJP leader Subhendu Adhikari. Corona rules will be followed during voting. Out of these 30 seats, BJP and Trinamool have fielded 29 each while the Congress-Left-ISF alliance has fielded candidates for all the seats. Trinamool’s Sarvesarva Mamata Banerjee, BJP ousted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Bihar Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other leaders have held several rallies in these 30 constituencies.
The fate of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assembly Speaker Hirendranath Goswami and Assam Pradesh Congress president Ripun Bora for the first phase of elections in Assam is in jeopardy. The fate of several ministers of the ruling BJP and some leaders of the Assam Gana Parishad will also be sealed at the ballot box today.
Voting time has been extended by one hour to comply with Corona’s rules, which will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
