Jerusalem
An 11-year-old girl has found a 2,000-year-old coin in the city of Jerusalem, Israel. This coin was made by a Jewish priest who took part in the Great Revolution. This was the first Jewish war against the Roman Empire. Israeli girl Lil Krutkop found this silver coin while working with other archaeologists in the city’s David National Park.

This coin is about 14 grams and has ancient signs and inscriptions about the Jewish Revolution on it. It has a cup on one side and ‘Israeli coin’ and ‘Second year’ are written on it. This ‘second year’ refers to the second year (67–68 BC) of the Jewish Revolution. On the other side of the coin, Holy Jerusalem is written in the ancient Hebrew language. “This is a rare find,” said Dr. Robert Kool, head of the coinage department of Israel’s Antiquities Authority.

The Great Revolution started with the imposition of religious sanctions on the Jews
Kool told that till now thousands of coins have been found during excavation but only 30 coins of the era of great revolution were made of silver. This is one of them and for this reason it is rare. These coins were made by the Jews in order to express their loyalty to the freedom of their people through this. The Jewish-Roman War began in Jerusalem after the Roman Empire completely annexed the Syrian province in 63 AD.

This great revolution initially started after religious restrictions were imposed on the Jews. In addition, the Romans wanted to build a building for the Israelites on the holy remains of the city of Jerusalem, which the Jews opposed. It included a Roman temple that was modeled on a sacred Jewish temple. In 70 years, 3 major wars were fought for this. The first Roman-Jewish war took place between the years 66 to 70 AD. Kool believes that the silver for the coins the girl found came from the treasures of the Jewish temple. This silver is of very high quality.
