Air purifier sales jump as air pollution levels rise

New Delhi, Nov 14 (PTI) Sales of room air purifiers (air purifying equipment) companies have seen a huge jump amid rising pollution levels in Delhi and its adjoining areas.

Like last year, this year also post Diwali sales of air purifiers Manufacturers expect their sales to increase after Diwali this year also.

Meanwhile, the air purifier business in the country has crossed Rs 500 crore. North India including Delhi-NCR accounts for three-fourth of the total sales of this product.

With the introduction of new models this season, air purifier companies are claiming protection not only from poor air quality but also against the threat of SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Margin R Shroff, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Eureka Forbes, told PTI, “We are confident that our new range of products will capture a significant market share during 2021. More importantly, these will enable thousands of customers across the country. Families will get much-needed relief.

Without giving figures, he said the company’s sales in this category have increased by 30 per cent as compared to last year.

Mahesh Gupta, Founder and Chairman, Kent RO said that the company has already seen an increase in sales this season as compared to last year and expects the momentum to continue till the end of winter.

He said that earlier 70 percent of Kent air purifiers were sold in Delhi NCR, but this year their demand has increased from other cities as well.

Air pollution in Delhi is near critical level. In view of this, the Delhi government on Saturday announced several emergency measures, including the closure of schools for a week.
