Lula seeks to avoid a ministerial team composed solely of election losers

The President has advocated for a blend that prioritizes both experience and new faces.

Re-elected President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) does not want his new ministerial team to be defined solely by familiar, long-standing political figures.

In an effort to honor the will of the voters, the PT leader has emphasized the need to combine experienced profiles with newcomers to the political scene.

Consequently, Lula has repeatedly stated that he does not want a ministerial team consisting exclusively of “losers”—that is, individuals who were defeated in this year’s elections.

The President has argued for the inclusion of allies who did not run or win in the recent electoral process—such as João Campos (PSB), Eduardo Paes (PSD), Simone Tebet (MDB), and Marina Silva (Rede).

However, Lula also stresses that young people played a crucial role in his re-election; therefore, emerging figures from the political left should also secure positions within the Esplanade of Ministries.

Before announcing his ministerial team, the Workers’ Party (PT) leader intends to consult with representatives from various left-wing parties. Behind the scenes, names such as Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP), Ana Elisa (PT-MG), and Ana Júlia (PT-PR) are being discussed.

Lula plans to announce his new ministerial team by the end of November. In the meantime, he intends to take some time to rest and hold meetings with party leadership.

The Workers’ Party leader has signaled that his new cabinet will feature a smaller proportion of left-wing representatives, with a greater emphasis on figures from the center-right. The objective is to secure the support of centrist parties in order to create a sort of cordon to isolate the right wing within the National Congress.
