Lightning has wreaked havoc in West Bengal. On Monday, 26 people died due to lightning in five districts of the state. 11 people died in Hooghly, 2 in Murshidabad, 2 in Bankura, 1 each in East Midnapore and West Midnapore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also announced compensation along with expressing condolences to the families of the deceased on the celestial havoc in West Bengal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced compensation to the families of the victims as a relief. He has announced Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

The injured were admitted to the hospital
Three more people were injured after lightning struck Murshidabad district, who have been admitted to Jangipur hospital for treatment, the official said. Districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, received heavy rains since afternoon, which the Met Office described as pre-monsoon rains. 11 people died in Hooghly, 2 in Murshidabad, 2 in Bankura, 1 each in East Midnapore and West Midnapore.
