13.21 lakh new members joined the scheme of employees’ state insurance corporation in july in July

New Delhi, Sep 24 (PTI) In July this year, 13.21 lakh new members joined the Social Security Scheme of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). Whereas earlier in the month of June, 10.58 lakh members had joined. This information was given in the official data released on Friday, which broadly tells the employment situation in the organized sector of the country.

The latest figures are part of the National Statistical Office (NSO) report.

According to the data, in aggregate, 10.72 lakh new members were added to the ESIC scheme in April, 8.87 lakh in May and 10.58 lakh in June. This suggests that since the relaxation of restrictions imposed at the state level to prevent the second wave of the corona virus epidemic, the number of members joining the schemes has increased i.e. new people are getting employment on regular wages.

The second wave of the Kovid epidemic came in mid-April this year. After that the states imposed ‘lockdown’ to prevent the epidemic.

According to the NSO report, the total number of new subscribers joining the schemes of ESIC in 2020-21 was 1.15 crore, which was 1.51 crore in 2019-20 and 1.49 crore in 2018-19. About 83.35 lakh new subscribers were added to the ESIC scheme during September 2017 to March 2018.

According to the report, the number of members joining ESIC during September 2017 to July 2021 stood at 5.42 crore.

The NSO report is based on the data of new subscribers joining the schemes of ESIC, Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).

NSO has been releasing such data since April 2018. The data has been taken from September 2017.

According to the report, 14.65 lakh new subscribers were added to the EPFO in July. This is up from 11.16 lakh as of June 2021. It said that during September 2017 to February 2021, about 4.51 crore (gross) new subscribers joined the EPFO scheme.

The report titled ‘Payroll Reporting in India: Employment Scenario-July 2021’ states that since the number of members is drawn from different sources, there may be duplication of figures and estimates. cannot be added.

The NSO also said that the report gives a different perspective about the level of employment in the organized sector and does not assess the job as a whole.
